Nintendo Direct September 2026: Zelda 40th Anniversary Showcase Confirmed

Nintendo fans have a big week ahead. Nintendo has confirmed two Nintendo Direct broadcasts for September 2026, with the first one focused entirely on the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda. The second Direct will cover upcoming Nintendo games, followed by a long Nintendo Treehouse gameplay stream.

The announcements have already created plenty of excitement, especially among Zelda fans waiting for more information about the Ocarina of Time remake and the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda movie.

Zelda 40th Anniversary Nintendo Direct

The special Zelda Direct is scheduled for September 8, 2026. The presentation will run for 30 minutes and will focus on the Zelda franchise.

The biggest expected announcement is a detailed look at the Ocarina of Time remake. Nintendo has already confirmed that the game will launch in 2026, so fans are expecting to finally see how the classic N64 game has been updated for modern hardware.

There could also be news about the live-action Legend of Zelda movie. Nintendo and Sony are working on the movie, and only some of the cast has been officially confirmed so far. A teaser trailer or additional casting announcement would certainly make the Direct even more exciting.

Fans may also get a look at special Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 consoles and Joy-Con controllers.

What to Expect From the Main Nintendo Direct

Just 24 hours after the Zelda presentation, Nintendo will hold its main Direct on September 9. This presentation will run for 45 minutes and will focus on upcoming Nintendo games.

Several Switch 2 titles are strong candidates for the show, including Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, which is scheduled for September 17, and Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, coming on October 22.

Nintendo has not revealed much about its 2027 lineup yet. That makes the main Direct particularly interesting. Fans could potentially see an early look at a new 3D Mario game, although there is no confirmation that it will appear.

A new game from a smaller Nintendo franchise is another possibility. A new Luigi’s Mansion or a 2D Metroid game would be a welcome surprise.

Nintendo Fans Won’t Have to Wait Long

The two presentations give Nintendo a major opportunity to show what is coming next for Switch 2. The Zelda anniversary event should focus on one of Nintendo’s most popular franchises, while the main Direct could reveal several games planned for late 2026 and early 2027.

With the Nintendo Direct September 2026 broadcasts only days away, fans will not have to wait much longer for answers. More importantly, the Ocarina of Time remake could finally get the detailed reveal that Zelda fans have been waiting for.
