Meta has introduced a new generation of smart eyewear at Meta Connect 2026, and the biggest surprise is the Meta VR Glasses. Priced at $1,299, the new glasses bring virtual reality, gaming, entertainment, AI, and productivity into a glasses-style design.
Meta also announced two other smart glasses: the camera-free Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses and the third-generation Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Meta VR Glasses Bring VR Into a Lighter Design

The Meta VR Glasses are designed to offer a more natural alternative to traditional VR headsets. Meta says they are five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3 and will go on sale in spring 2027.
The glasses feature a 5K display that can be used for watching movies, viewing 3D content, playing games, and working. Since users are looking at two screens, external cameras allow them to see their surroundings while wearing the glasses.
To keep the glasses lightweight, Meta has moved the main computing hardware, battery, and storage into a separate puck connected to the glasses.

AI and Entertainment Are a Big Part of the Experience
Meta is also putting its AI technology at the center of the new glasses. Users can control the device with hand gestures or speak to the built-in Muse AI agent.
The glasses will also show a fully rendered version of a user’s custom Muse avatar. Meta is introducing hologram calling as well. Users can create a full-body digital version of themselves through the Meta AI app and use it during video calls.
For entertainment, Meta says the glasses are the first IMAX Enhanced-certified VR device. The company is also working with Disney+ to bring movies such as The Avengers and Black Panther to the platform.
Meta says it is also working to bring services such as Prime Video and YouTube to the glasses.
For office users, the Meta VR Glasses can create one large virtual screen or multiple smaller displays. Flat surfaces can also become virtual keyboards and mice, making it possible to work without carrying extra accessories.
Gamers will get Xbox Cloud Gaming support, giving users another way to play games through the glasses.
Camera-Free Ray-Ban Meta Audio Glasses

Alongside the VR model, Meta announced the $349 Ray-Ban Meta Audio glasses. Unlike standard Ray-Ban Meta glasses, this version does not include cameras.
That camera-free design makes the glasses look more like traditional Ray-Bans while still offering smart features and audio capabilities.

With the Meta VR Glasses, Meta is clearly trying to combine VR, AI, entertainment, gaming, and work in one wearable device. The real test will come when the $1,299 glasses arrive in spring 2027.
