Nintendo has delivered another packed presentation, and the September 2026 Nintendo Direct brought plenty of news for Switch and Switch 2 players. Just one day after its Zelda-focused Direct, Nintendo returned with a broader showcase featuring new games, remakes, updates, and release dates.
Among the biggest announcements were new entries connected to popular franchises, including Yo-Kai Watch, Kirby, and Metroid, while several long-awaited games finally received confirmed launch dates.
Major Games Coming to Switch 2
One of the biggest announcements was Monster Hunter Wilds, which is coming to Switch 2 on December 4. Its Ascendance expansion is also planned for 2027.
Fans of classic RPGs can play Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII Reunion on Switch 2 starting today. The remastered PSP prequel follows Zack Fair and expands the world of Final Fantasy VII.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity – Definitive Edition will arrive on February 25. It includes the Expansion Pass content, improved visuals and frame rates, more enemies on screen, and a new Calamity Mode. Players can also transfer save data from the original Switch version.

Professor Layton and New Adventures
Another major highlight was Professor Layton and the New World of Steam. The game launches on December 10 for both Switch 2 and Switch.
The story takes Layton and Luke to the American town of Steam Bison, where strange incidents create a new mystery for the famous detective duo to solve.
Nintendo also announced Yo-Kai Watch 2: Haunted Domain, an enhanced remake of the Yo-Kai Watch 2 games. It will include new story content and additional features, although its release date has not yet been revealed.
More Switch 2 Updates
Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy arrives November 12 with new voice commands for Oatchi and a new time-challenge mode.
Meanwhile, Star Fox is getting a free update on September 29. The update adds local split-screen multiplayer, three new stages, and four-player online multiplayer on a single Switch 2 console.
Nintendo Switch Online subscribers also have another reason to return to the classics, as Star Fox Adventures is now available through the GameCube Classics library.
Other announcements included Kingdom Come: Deliverance II Royal Edition for 2027, the horror game Onyx: The Dark Grip, Stage Fright, Disney Dreamlight Valley: The Keepsake Sea, and Ondeh Ondeh Kaya’s Tasty Tale.
